Essentially this is how Iowa and the City of Council Bluffs are choosing to welcome people into the state.
Our Project Topic:

Group work part
1.           We will model our existing site and analyze in 3 scales:
A). Regional Scale: Model with landform and surrounding main features. Analysis on area existing conditions: Transportation, Casino, Industrial Companies, Mid-American Mall, Western Historic Trail, Missouri River.  (Sunday, April 8th)

B). Site Scale: Analysis on our site scale with potential topics: line of sight, slope, flooding. (due Thursday April 12th)

Separate work part
       1. Starting our different proposed model with designed landscape elements.
C). Design Scale: Analysis on topic: cut/fill volume (due Thursday April 19th)

      2. Render and visualize proposed models in 'scenes' including day and night scenes, rainy and winter scenes, and compared with site existing photos. (due Tuesday April 23rd)

       3. Produce TWO different narrated and/or annotated animation. (due Tuesday April 23rd)

Fan Lan
MLA, 1st year
i. What prior experience with digital technology have you had?  List software and levels of proficiency
I studied in landscape architecture for 5 years. During my undergraduate study, I engaged almost all those basic digital technology. I am good at digital plan drawing by using AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator (4/5). I could use limited functions in Indesign (2/5), ArcGIS (2/5), Google Earth Pro (2/5),Lumion Pro (3/5). I  used all these softwares for earlier design works.
ii. Describe your comfort level with computing generally, and with the software programs:
I am at the entry level on Rhino, but I have not used it for years.
I know limited about computing and nothing about Rhino-Grasshopper and Processing programming environment.
iii.  What are your goals and expectations for this course?
First, I aim to learn some useful and fast processing methods from this course to find and deal with the base map for design use. Besides, I am interested in the parametric design by using rhino and its plugin, grasshopper. I hope to learn programming from this class and to get elementary level by learning some basic rules of processing or python language for future using. Last but not least, I am also fascinated to use GIS for landscape theme analyses and researches. I hope to learn some analytical methods by using GIS as the aiding.
